This DIY book stack that says Life Is Better At The Lake is so adorable and EASY to make! I will show you how you can make your own cabin decor using your Cricut. Don’t worry if you don’t have a Cricut, you can make one with stick-on letters!

I just LOVE how nice this book stack turned out! It was really inexpensive to make, but it looks SO nice on my shelf at our cabin. It is similar to my farmhouse book stack project, but this one uses color to make it feel like the lake and fit right in at our cabin. These make a really nice gift idea too!

DIY Cabin Decor

Every summer we move out to our cabin on the lake and this year was my first year doing any decorating out there. I wanted some inexpensive projects that would make it feel like home. This one hit the nail on the head and I just LOVE how it turned out! I also did this DIY door hanger and did some etched glasses with our lake and state on them. On to the book stack, let’s get started!

Here is what you’ll need:

  • 3 paperback books
  • chalk paint (I used blue)
  • jute/twine
  • artificial flower/greenery
  • Cricut Explore Air 2 or Maker
  • Cricut Permanent Vinyl in white
  • THIS free Design Space file for the letters

how to make a book stack

Start by carefully removing the paper jacket from the books. Then use the blue chalk paint to paint the spine of each book. Allow to fully dry.

While the paint is drying, use your Cricut machine to cut out the letters for the spines. Use my free Design Space file here if you’d like. Weed the letters and apply transfer tape to them. Then apply them to the dry spines of the book and burnish them so they stick well.

Finally, wrap some jute/twine around the end of the book stack several times and knot it on the top. Tuck an artificial flower and greens into the twine and you are finished!

I put my book stack on a shelf above my coffee bar along with a little plant I scored at the Targett dollar spot. Doesn’t it look adorable? It is a great reminder that life really is better at the lake! Life just slows down a little and the stress melts away. You can’t beat it.

These book stacks also make a great gift idea! I like to personalize them and gift them. Everyone loves them.

You can find paperback books for $1 at Dollar Tree or you can scoop them up at thrift stores or garage sales for cheap.

Change up the saying on the spines to create any favorite mantra you want! The sky is the limit! Use your children’s names, a favorite saying, your last name along with the year you were married – est. 2020 for example. There are so many possibilities!
