If you’ve landed here, then you probably are dealing with a fussy, colicky baby who is struggling to sleep, excessively gassy and crying. Or perhaps your baby was diagnosed with colic due to cow’s milk allergy. As a Registered Nurse, and mother to four children, I have dealt with colic due to cow’s milk allergy and I am here to help provide you with some information and explain what Nutramigen® with Enflora™ LGG® is.

Nutramigen Formula

Nutramigen® Formula

First of all, while I am a Registered Nurse, I am not your child’s Registered Nurse, so please always consult your doctor before making any medical decisions. I have experience using Nutramigen® as an RN in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Many people may wonder what a hypoallergenic formula is and when you should talk to your doctor about using one.

What Is Nutramigen®?

Nutramigen® is a hypoallergenic infant formula from the maker of Enfamil. It is the #1 pediatrician recommended brand of infant formula for a cow’s milk allergy. Nutramigen® with Enflora™ LGG® is the only nutritionally complete, hypoallergenic formula with LGG probiotic for babies with cow’s milk allergy.

When Should I Talk to My Doctor About Nutramigen®?

Talk to your baby’s doctor about Nutramigen® formula if your child is showing indications of a cow’s milk allergy, which can include colic. Colic is a possible indication of cow’s milk allergy. Colic may occur as a delayed reaction within a few hours or days of consuming cow’s milk protein. Babies with cow’s milk allergy may have a range of behaviors of which colic could be just one. It’s important for your doctor to determine if your baby has cow’s milk allergy, so you can start managing the allergy right away.

What Does Nutramigen® Do?

Nutramigen® is easy-to-digest and reduces gas, crying, and disturbed sleep (due to cow’s milk allergy) for a happier, better-rested baby and mom. Nutramigen is indicated for addressing cow’s milk allergy.

Nutramigen® with Enflora™ LGG® is the only formula with 3-in-1 allergy benefits published in clinical studies.

  • Fast relief: Starts working as early as the first feeding and reduces crying within 48 hours*
  • Fewer allergies: ~50% less chance of experiencing other allergies like asthma & eczema†
  • Fast return to cow’s milk: 1.8x more babies return to milk protein in as early as after 6 months of feeding‡

Most children outgrow cow’s milk allergy by 3-5 years of age. But with Nutramigen LGG®, almost 60% babies can digest cow’s milk without an allergic reaction in as early as after 6 months of feeding and 80% after a year, in time for regular milk. ‡

Studies have shown infants with a food allergy are 2-4 x more likely to face other allergy challenges as they grow. In a 5-year follow-up study of infants with CMA, 75% exhibited other food allergies, 40% exhibited asthma, 21% exhibited eczema and 43% exhibited nasal/eye allergies.

My son had a food allergy as a baby and it took us over a year to figure that out. In the meantime, he was a fussy, colicky, miserable baby. He also wasn’t able to tolerate routine infant formula. Nutramigen® is easy to digest and helps calm the colic due to cow’s milk allergy so you can both regain peace and feel better.

If your baby has indications of a cow’s milk allergy I would urge you to speak to your child’s physician sooner than later. The sooner a cow’s milk allergy is diagnosed, the sooner your baby’s can be on his or her way to feeling better.

*Studied before the addition of DHA, ARA, or LGG.

†Lower likelihood of exhibiting asthma, eczema, rhinoconjunctivitis, or urticaria at 3 years compared to Nutramigen without LGG.

One of my nieces had an allergy to cow’s milk and ended up using something similar (or maybe it was this?). Thank god there are options out there for little ones with allergies.

I didn’t realize that giving kids a hypoallergenic formula could help with their health down the line. I think it’s a great way to help the kids stay healthy now and down the line.

I was very lucky because my kids were able to have regular formula then milk. It is good for those babies that need a special formula or have a milk allergy that they can get the Nutramigen.

I miss the formula days more often than not. I loved feeding my babies until they were comfy and cozy!

I can definitely see this being a healthy option to avoid some of those awful allergy symptoms. Colic seems to be so common!

I love that there are such great formula options these days. I probably could have used something like this when my twins were babies. They had sensitive tummies.

This formula changed our lives. My daughter had severe stomach issues when she was born. Nothing else worked!

My friend’s daughter was on this. She wasn’t processing certain proteins at all and was not gaining.
