Kids rooms are so much fun to decorate. There are so many different themes you can incorporate into a kids room. I was just watching Home Made Simple TV on OWN network and I love this kids beach bedroom makeover they did for a little boy with special needs. They were aiming to create an oasis where he could relax and be calm and wanted an environment that reminded him of visiting the pier with his Grandpa who had passed away. I loved the final result which came out to a kids room that didn’t look to “babyish” and had a calming effect for this little boy.
Check out the amazing DIY dresser makeover they did! I LOVE this dresser. They took your standard, boring white dresser and gave it a coat of paint, distressed the finish and removed 2 drawers and replaced them with baskets. Swap out the hardware for rope handles and you’ve got a new nautical looking dresser. What I love about Home Made Simple TV is that you can log on to their site after the show and get the step by step directions for all their projects! You can find the DIY dresser tutorial on their site!
They also created a boardwalk for him in his room. It turned out so cute!
The boardwalk led up to his nautical platform bed that they created for just $60! Tutorial here.
This surfboard bookshelf and DIY carnival letters complete the look!
An inexpensive way to cover up an old light fixture is to make these cloud light diffusers rather than replace the light. It also mutes the light so it’s not so bright in the room which is important for children with sensory overload.
After the beach party bedroom makeover was complete they threw a party and served these yummy no bake chocolate cookies! You can get the recipe along with other recipes and DIY ideas on the Home Made Simple TV site! Tune in to Home Made Simple TV on Saturday mornings on OWN network. Check your local listing for times!
