After moving from our previous home into the house we now live in I noticed a smell starting to come from my washer after washing my clothes. I had no idea why or where it came from, but I knew I needed to get rid of it. I found Smelly Washer online and they proved to be the solution to the stinky washer I had.

I tried the Smelly Washer Cleaner and let it soak overnight as stated in the directions. I then let the washer complete its cycle and proceeded to do my laundry. I was elated that the stinky washer smell was gone! My washer was cured in one treatment however some may need more depending on the severity.

From their web page:

Smelly Washer Cleaner is the only clothes washer cleaner that is all natural! It is also the only available washing machine cleaner that will remove mold odor from any towel or clothing that has picked up bad mildew smell from the washer! Formerly Purewasher, we’ve removed any scents or dyes to conform with all natural product standards.

You can also use Smelly Washer on your towels to make them smell fresh and new again. Smelly Washer is safe for septic systems and works on both front or top loading washing machines. Smelly Washer can be used after the initial treatments for maintenance cycles as well.

Smelly Washer Cleaner sells for $16.99 a bottle and is shipped anywhere worldwide. You can buy it on their site. My readers can also get 10% off their order with the code thriftymama through Sept 1st, 2009!

Win! One reader will win their own bottle of Smelly Washer Cleaner!

This giveaway has ended. Congrats to the winner:

I learned that if it smells worse after a cleaning then that’s a good sign as it’s loosened up the top layers of fungus and exposed lower layers to air. You need to clean again.

I learned this: A number of issues can cause a smelly washer. The most important thing is to take care of the mold and mildew that cause the musty smell as soon as possible by cleaning your washer with washer cleaner. If you don’t address the mold and mildew problem immediately with washer cleaner, the musty smell can transfer to your clothing and to other rooms in your home.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

one of the reasons for a smelly washer is the fact that you are washing only with cold water, the hot water disinfects the machine…hmmm, now I know I have to ask hubby to hook up the hot water because for years I only washed in cold water and sometimes the machine would be plain stinky!

I didn’t know this: If U use cold water wash mostly this can cause the smell problem in the washer, coldwater doesn’t dissolve the laundry detergent enough. So at least once a week use hot water wash 2 dissolve the laundry detergent. I mostly have been using coldwater wash 2 save on our electric bill.

Citrus based makes sense, maybe thats why it works, I can tell you its most annoying to have an expensive front load (new) machine smell moldy!

I need to soak overnight but my washer drains after being paused for a couple of hours. – If you are able to open the door after pausing it will stop the washer from draining. Some customers have reported they unplug or shut the power to the washer off.
