Keeping toddlers hydrated can be a challenge! Most toddlers don’t want to interrupt their playtime to stop and take a drink. The key to keeping them hydrated on hot summer days is to make it fun! These fresh fruit popsicles combine two ingredients to keep kids hydrated and cool!
I have found the secret to keeping my kids hydrated on hot summer days: serving up lots of popsicles! The problem with most popsicles you buy at the store is that they are loaded with sugar or high-fructose corn syrup. Rather than serving up sugar water to my kids all day, I prefer to go with a healthy, natural option instead! These fresh fruit popsicles are easy to make and your kids will love them!
It’s important to keep kids hydrated because they can become severely dehydrated in a short timespan. They don’t recognize the cues of dehydration on their own because they are often distracted with playtime. The human body is made up of over 70% water, so it is vital to replenish water levels in order to maintain muscle function, joint and brain protection, mood, immune health, digestion and more.
We were at an arts and crafts festival last weekend where it was a steamy 80 degrees and 100% humidity. While waiting in line for lemonade, my toddler Brady decided that lying under this sign, the only shade in sight, was his best option. He was already becoming dehydrated and needed to get something cool to drink!
Keep your kids cool and hydrated this summer with these super easy-to-make fresh fruit popsicles. All you need to make these is:
- popsicle mold
- fresh fruit, sliced
- coconut water
Wash and slice your fresh fruit. You can use any variety of fruit! Leave things like small berries whole. Place the fruit loosely into your popsicle mold. Add coconut water and fill the mold, leaving room at the top for it to expand when it freezes. Freeze for 4 hours or overnight.
Remove popsicles from molds by running under hot water for a few seconds. Voila! How easy was that? You’ve got a healthy fresh fruit treat that doubles as a hydration delivery system! These are toddler approved too! They taste so yummy! If your toddler is teething, then they double as a great teething relief too!
