All you need for this kids craft project is a water color set, Faultless Premium Starch and coffee filters. It’s easy, inexpensive and you probably already have these things on hand.

If you aren’t familiar with Faultless Premium Starch it can be purchased in the laundry aisle of major retailers. Unlike other starch, the Faultless Premium bottle won’t clog, flake or stick. Of course it is made to keep your clothes looking new and keep you looking your best so I always have it on hand right next to my ironing board! Think starch is just for your Grandma? Think again!

Next spread your coffee filter flat on a paper towel or two. On one of my bowls I cut the edges of the coffee filter so they were more irregular and the other I didn’t. I preferred the finished look of the coffee filter that I cut the edges on. Just cut them a little along the edge so it isn’t so perfect looking. Now paint it with the water colors.

Place a cup upside down on a paper towel.

Drape your painted coffee filter over the cup and spray it with Faultless Premium Starch. Give it a good coating and allow it to fully dry before removing it from the cup.

  6. Hi,
I did this with my grandson and they’re so cute. But is there any way to make them sturdier? I drenched them in spray starch but they didn’t harden a whole lot.
    Thanks,
    Debra

    1. We just used the starch spray on ours but I would imagine you could maybe use a thin layer of clear elmers glue or spray on glue to make it a little harder. Let us know if you try it!
