We follow a clean eating diet for the most part and that means we don’t eat a lot of dairy. My kids LOVE yogurt though so this almond milk yogurt is a great alternative to traditional dairy yogurt.

If you think it is a challenge to follow a clean eating diet when you have kids, then think again. It can be done and it is not a struggle once you discover healthier options to old favorites. For example, these gluten free chicken strips are a favorite here. The recipe uses almond flour instead of wheat flour and they are so delicious. These green bean fries are a favorite way to eat a healthy veggie disguised as a fry.

Almond Milk Yogurt Instant Pot

We made our almond milk yogurt in the Instant Pot. I LOVE my Instant Pot and it makes the process of making yogurt an easy and doable task that I would otherwise probably not tackle. Similar to my Instant Pot cheesecake, this is a recipe that might seem intimidating however it is super easy and once you’ve done it you will see that it is nothing to be intimidated by.

I’ll show you how to make your own almond yogurt step by step so you can follow along easily!

How To Make Almond Milk Yogurt

You’ll need just four ingredients to make your own almond milk yogurt.

  • ½ gallon almond milk (homemade almond milk will come out thicker where store-bought will come out thinner. All in the preference!)
  • 3 TBSP plain almond yogurt with live active cultures (you can buy an individual container of almond yogurt at the store for this)
  • 2 TBSP Gelatin (use grass-fed gelatin for the best health benefits)
  • 4 TBSP Arrowroot Flour (this is sometimes called arrowroot starch as well – it is the same thing)

How To Sterilize Instant Pot For Yogurt

The first step is to clean and sterilize all of your equipment, especially the ring in your IP. You could risk getting mold if it is not completely sterilized. Doing this is really easy!

  1. Place 2 cups cold water in the instant pot.
  2. Place trivet and all equipment (glass measuring cup, tablespoon, spatula, etc) inside the Instant Pot.
  3. Close the lid and place on “sealing” setting
  4. Set to manual high pressure for 3 minutes and allow to natural release.

Alternatively, you can boil everything in a pot of water on the stove for 10 minutes and place on a clean drying rack.

Homemade Almond Milk Yogurt

Now that we have gathered our ingredients and sterilized our equipment, we are ready to make homemade almond milk yogurt!

First, add almond milk to your Instant Pot. You can use store-bought almond milk or homemade almond milk. Close the lid on your Instant Pot.

Press Yogurt mode and continue to press until it displays “BOIL”. This will take about 45 minutes. It should be at 180 degrees Fahrenheit. The Instant Pot screen will change to “yogt” when the boiling is done. Open the lid and immediately check the temperature in several spots to ensure it is 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Sir the almond milk with a spatula and check the temperature once more to ensure it is 180 degrees.

If it does not, press “Sauté” on your Instant Pot while stirring until it reaches 180 degrees. Add in your gelatin and arrowroot. Mix well.

Remove the inner pot now. You can speed up the cooling process by placing the pot in cold water, or ice water (I place it in the sink with cold water). Allow it to cool until it reaches 115 degrees.

Skim the skin off your milk using a spoon or mesh strainer, and discard. In a small bowl, add a few spoonfuls to your store-bought 3 TBSP yogurt. Mix well, then add to your inner pot. Mix well.

Bring your inner pot back to the Instant Pot. Press the “Yogurt” function, and up the time to 12 hours (when the Instant Pot has started yogurt function, it will not count down like pressure cooking. It will count up to 12 hours.). If you like your yogurt thicker, you can up the time to 16 hours.

After the time has completed, transfer the inner pot to your refrigerator to cool for at least 6-8 hours.

Now you are ready to enjoy your homemade almond milk yogurt!

Remember, this is just yogurt and will not be sweetened. You can add honey, fruit and granola to your yogurt and enjoy it as a wholesome breakfast. Alternatively, you can use the plain finished yogurt in place of sour cream in recipes. There are lots of great uses for your yogurt and you can divide it up and use it for different things!

  1. I make dairy yogurt every week and can’t wait to try this. A few questions, when do you had the gelatin and arrowroot? And can I use my dairy yogurt as a starter? Thanks.

  2. I tried this last night and just opened it. I feel like I followed the recipe thoroughly and something didn’t dissolve, either the gelatin or the arrowroot powder was all clumped on the bottom. What could I have done wrong?
