Laser hair reduction is a non-invasive and convenient way for removing or reducing unwanted body or facial hair permanently. This procedure leaves the skin looking silkier and smoother than razors, electrolysis or waxing. It is also a procedure that can be used to treat larger areas of the body with no downtime and less discomfort. The procedure is also referred to as laser hair removal or light based hair removal.
During the procedure concentrated light is beamed into the hair follicles. The pigments in the skin’s follicles absorb the concentrated light, which then destroys the hair.
Advantages of Laser Hair Reduction
Lasers are valuable for removing of any hair that is unwanted from the bikini line, underarm, arm, leg, face and other areas of the body.
The advantages of this procedure include:
• Precision. Laser technology is very precise. Laser beam can selectively target coarse, dark hairs and leave the skin that surrounds it untouched.
• Speed. Lasers are very fast. A single pulse of the concentrated laser beam takes only a millisecond and it can remove numerous hairs in that short period of time. Minor areas for example the upper lip take minute or even less to be treated. However, other big areas of the body like the legs or the back may take an hour or less to be treated.
• Predictability. Patients who regularly use this technology will permanently will have a permanent loss of hair after an approximately 3 to 7 sessions. After this one does not need to go through the procedure again.
How to One Can Prepare for the Procedure of Laser Hair Reduction at Soundvascular
The procedure requires adequate training to perform as it comes with potential risks. Before going through the procedure, make sure that the technician or the doctor has good credentials and can perform the procedure well. At Soundvascular we have the best doctors in this field.
It is recommended that one limits electrolysis, waxing and plucking for approximately six weeks if he or she is planning to undergo hair laser removal. This is because the laser beams targets the hair roots, which are removed temporarily by plucking or waxing. One should avoid sun exposure before and after the treatment for a period of six weeks. Sun exposure reduces the effectiveness of the procedure and may bring complications after the treatment.
What one can Expect during the Laser Hair Reduction Procedure
Before the procedure, your hair will be cut short to a few millimetres above the skin’s surface .The laser hair removal equipment will be tuned to the thickness, location and colour of your hair and skin.
Depending on the light source or laser used, both you and our Soundvascular technician will have to wear appropriate eye protection. The exterior layers of the surface of your skin will also be protected with a special cooling device or a cold gel. This helps the laser to easily penetrate your skin.
The technician will then direct a pulse of highly concentrated light to the area being treated and then watch that area for a few minutes to ensure that the best settings were used and there are no negative reactions.
You will be given cold water, anti-inflammatory lotions or creams, or ice packs to ease any form of discomfort. Our doctors at Soundvascular will recommend that you book your next treatment 4 or six weeks after the treatment. You can get treatment until the hair growth stops.
Risks and Recovery
A day or two after the treatment, the treated area will look and feel like it is sunburned. To reduce the discomfort one can use a moisturizer. If the face was the area treated, you can wear makeup the following day only if the skin is not blistering.
The treated hair will start falling out after a month. It is recommended that you wear sunscreen to help in preventing temporary changes in the colour of the treated skin.
