I wouldn’t exactly say I have a green thumb but I’m trying really hard this year to grow a bunch of veggies! I’m so excited to be gardening and honestly with 3 kids under 5 I have to look for ways to save time in doing it. If there is a way I can eliminate weeding and my plants won’t die if I forget to water them one day then I’m all about it!
In looking for an easy way to grow tomatoes that I could start indoors due to our cold temps (yes we had a frost warning THIS week! Ugh!) I came across this awesome rolling, self watering tomato planter with tower. It drew me in with the self watering feature and built in cage to support the tomatoes, not to mention that I don’t have to weed it! I decided to give it a try and see how things went.
This is a view of the self watering feature at the bottom of the container. It can hold the overflow water beneath the vents so the plant can draw it up when needed.
It comes with a cage already assembled and ready to be installed.
We filled it with dirt and added the included fabric over the top. The fabric prevents the weeds from growing through so you don’t even have to weed it! I’ve been growing my tomatoes for awhile now and haven’t weeded it a single time! It’s awesome!! Now if only all gardening was this easy!
In order to plant your tomatoes you’ll need to cut an X in the fabric. I decided to do 2 tomato pants so I cut an X on each side of the fabric.

Here are my beautiful tomatoes!
The planter works great on my front porch and I love that it’s on wheels so I can easily move it around. It gets sun all day and when we have those nasty frost warnings at night I can just wheel it right into the house! It looks great and I’ve already had many comments on it from my visitors.
I’ll keep you updated as my plants continue to grow. They are already even bigger than they were when I snapped this picture. I have been fertilizing them every 2 weeks and watering as needed. I haven’t weeded at all and they are doing fantastic! If you are thinking about growing tomatoes this year then I highly recommend this method. It’s easy and totally painless. Just sit back and wait for those sweet, juicy rewards 🙂
You can get this tomato planters and many others at Plow and Hearth. They have an AMAZING selection of gardening products to choose from so give them a visit!

I also love the Rolling Self-watering Tomato Planter. I could start them earlier since we have shorter growing season.
