Take your family camping this Summer!!!

With Summer finally here I am so excited to spend some time outdoors. We are always looking for fun ways to spend time together as a family without breaking the bank. This Summer we thought it would be so much fun to go camping together. It creates amazing memories for the kids and is an excellent way to bond as a family.

A tent is something every family needs! Once you’ve invested in it you will have it for so many years and it is the perfect outdoor oasis. Teaching your kids to camp in a tent and enjoy the great outdoors seems to be a lost tradition in this day and time. So many kids sit indoors all day and watch T.V or play video games. I am big on getting the kids to explore and learn about their surroundings.
We received the Kelty Palisade 4 to test out. It sleeps four people and has a list of great features that I was excited to learn more about. It was the winner of the 2010 Camping Life Editor’s Choice Award. The Palisade is ready for any adventure and it features double-door convenience with a full vestibule and back ‘porch’ storage area to keep you and your family organized while enjoying the great outdoors.

Here is the tent as my husband was setting it up. This is the main tent sleeping area. It has a zippered opening and screened windows for great ventilation. I loved the orange and gray color combo too. The great features about the body of the tent are that it is freestanding, has color-coded clip sleeve construction, taped floor seams and an ArcEdge floor. It also features adjustable stakeouts, mesh panels and lantern loops.
It features internal storage pockets on each corner of the tent so you can stay organized and keep from losing smaller items.

Once you’ve attached the outer fly portion of the tent it looks like the photo above. It features a dual entry vestibule which I love. This cuts down on the bugs in and out of the main sleeping area. It also allows you to relax away from the bugs and be able to still see your kids if they are sleeping in the main tent area.

I also really loved this smaller opening on the opposite side of the tent from the main entry. You could store anything you like there and have easy access to it without opening the main entry door. It would be a great place for a beverage cooler so you didn’t have to leave the tent to get a water. It is protected by the outer fly so you don’t have to worry about it getting down poured on.

The fly features a mesh vestibule with pull down shades. It is a great place to relax and also a great place to store your extra gear. The floor is open so it wouldn’t be completely protected from getting wet on the ground but would keep everything away from the elements.

It even has cup holders! This is perfect for relaxing at the end of a fun filled family day! I was also very impressed that when my husband took the tent down it easily went back into the bag! I’ve never seen that happen before!! Usually we are struggling with it and never able to get it back in the bag. Thank you Kelty for making a tent bag that is actually big enough to fit the tent back into it! The tent also survived through quite the downpour and thunderstorm. It is durable and held up great. I’m impressed with the quality and features that this tent offers.

You can buy the Kelty Palisade 4 for $399.95 on the Kelty site as well as retailers you can locate on their site. You can also find a huge variety of other camping products and tents on their site. Visit their site and you can enter their Father’s Day giveaway to win a Kelty Screenhouse! Ends June 20th.
They have a great selection of products that would make great Father’s Day gifts too!! So gather up your family and go have an outdoor adventure. You will be sure to create memories that will last a lifetime. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

  8. That is one cool tent! I especially like the internal storage pockets so that you can keep those most important things like sunscreen and bug spray handy! My daughter is dying to camp in our back yard … this would be a tent that would even get me to give it a try!

  9. We love to go camping and are normally packed into a small tent, which is no fun when your trying to sleep. This looks very nice and roomy. It is not expensive either! Thanks for sharing.

  10. I'm not much on camping usually, but if we had a tent like this then I could most likely enjoy it! I love that it has separate compartments. One of the things that I hate most about camping is the bugs, but this would keep the bugs out of the sleeping compartment which would be awesome!

Hello, and thank you for writing such a wonderful review of this tent! I found your site while Googling for tents, and am seriously thinking about buying this tent. The problem is, do you think that 2 chairs would fit in that vestibule? That's important to us, and although I keep staring at it, I cannot make up my mind. Seems that that would go so well with the 2 drink holders!

    Thank you again!

  20. Hi Anonymous!

Yes, two regular chairs will fit in the vestibule. When my husband went camping with a group of guys they had 5 of the guy's gear in the vestibule and it worked great. It poured outside and it all stayed dry. 4 Guys (3 men and 1 teenager) slept in the tent and were very comfortable. Since all the gear fit in the vestibule they had a lot more room in the tent. Hope this helps!

  1. […] Cons: A little pricier than other models but the quality really is worth the price tag. I really love the Kelty brand. We also have a Kelty tent that we LOVE. My husband just took it up to the Boundary Waters and two other guy’s tents in his group broke during a bad storm while they were there. The Kelty held up no problem and they ended up moving into his tent! The wind was blowing trees over, but the Kelty tent held up like a champ! You can read my review here. […]
