Dirt Cake Recipe! Peanut Free Dessert Idea!

My son Aiden has a peanut allergy and cannot have any nuts or anything processed in a factory that also processes nuts of any kind so I am always on the lookout for great desserts that are peanut free. I am going to start sharing my peanut free recipes with you. Of course always check the labels on the packages that you buy and if it is an ingredient that I’ve found a certain brand to carry peanut free varities I’ll let you know! Here is a fun recipe for any occasion, dirt cake! You can make this in a pan or put it in individual cups. If you want to get really creative you can use flower pots with fake flowers in them 🙂

Ingredients:

2 small pkgs instant chocolate pudding
3 C milk
3/4 C margarine-softened
1 C powdered sugar
8 oz pkg cream cheese – softened
8 oz container cool whip
1 1/2 pkg Oreos (about 1 1/2 lb)
2 pkg gummi worms – Target’s Market Pantry brand are peanut free!

First you will need to crush your Oreos and set them aside. I used my food processor to make it quick and easy.

Mix chocolate pudding and milk. Add margarine and powdered sugar. Beat well with hand mixer. Add cream cheese and mix. Fold in Cool Whip.

Next layer cookie crumbs, pudding mixture and gummi worms in a 9 x 13 pan. I put gummi worms in the middle and on top so everyone is sure to get a gummi worm!

Here is your finished product! Kids love this cake 🙂

  1. Oh the memories!
My grandma made this one year when I was a kid.. it was Christmas time and she "planted" fake poinsettias in the pots with the dirt cake. Then she just walked by, reached in and started eating the plant.. all us kids flipped out. It was so funny. My dad passed away 2 weeks ago and while talking about our favorite memories, my cousin and I were just talking about doing this for our kids this year. So seeing this post made me smile with the tears tonight. Thanks so much for sharing.

  2. Oh what an amazing memory. You should definitely do that with your kids. It would be a great way to honor her memory 🙂 Thanks for sharing such a heartwarming story with us!
