Why I Choose Wet Ones Wipes Over Hand Sanitizer

As a Mom I am always doing my best to avoid germs. Being in the middle of peak cold and flu season, the last thing I want is to bring germs home or have my kids pass them around. We are always on the go and soap and water aren’t always readily available. So what’s a Mom to do? There are a myriad of germ killing products on the market, but I choose Wet Ones Wipes. Why do I use Wet Ones Wipes versus other hand sanitizing products on the market?

One HUGE reason that I choose Wet Ones Wipes over hand sanitizer for my family is because my son, Aiden, who is 3 years old, has a severe, life threatening peanut allergy. Hand sanitizer does NOT remove peanut residue from hands but Wet Ones Wipes DO. For this reason our whole family uses them to be sure we are keeping Aiden safe and not inadvertently introducing peanuts into his environment by way of hand to surface transfer. At our church we have also implemented washing every child’s hands with Wet Ones Wipes upon entering the classroom so we can be sure they aren’t bringing any peanut residue into the classroom. Wet Ones Wipes are effective at removing the peanut protein from hands and thus reducing the chances of exposing Aiden to the peanut allergen.

Beyond protecting Aiden from peanuts, which is my number one priority, there are other germ fighting reasons that I choose Wet Ones Wipes. Wet Ones Antibacterial Hand Wipes are proven to be just as effective as gel hand sanitizers in killing 99.99 percent of germs, but they also clean better than hand sanitizer gels, wiping away dirt and messes without drying out skin like alcohol-based hand sanitizers. If your hands are visibly dirty then your gel hand sanitizer is not nearly as effective as it is when you use it on visibly clean hands. After reading different independent study results I was surprised at how many germs were left on hands that were visibly dirty even after using a gel hand sanitizer. Wet Ones wipes not only kill the bacteria but by removing the dirt residue they are doing a much more effective job at cleaning your hands than gel hand sanitizers ever could.

Another reason I love Wet Ones Wipes is that they are gentle on skin and are even safe for babies. I don’t want to put an alcohol based hand sanitizer on my baby’s hands and then watch him put those hands in his mouth. Wet Ones remove the bacteria without the harsh alcohol on his skin or worse, in his mouth. They’re hypoallergenic, alcohol- and fragrance-free. Each wipe has an extra mild cleanser & soothing moisturizers to help keep the touchiest skin touchable.

Wet Ones are available in multiple sizes and I use all three different sizes for different situations. I always throw some single wipes in my jacket pocket because you know you will be caught without your diaper bag and needing a wipe. I also pack them in my daughter’s school lunch box so she can clean her hands before and after eating. The 15 count travel packs are perfect for tossing in my purse and in my diaper bag. I keep the 40 count canister in my car. It fits right in the cup holder! Don’t be caught with germy hands! It’s peak cold and flu season and germ prevention is key!!

I am constantly using Wet Ones. I use them after touching surfaces while out and about. Whether I have just come out of the grocery store, or just pumped gas, I use them to remove germs from my hands. After leaving a store I get all my kids in their car seats and they each wash their hands with a Wet Ones Wipe too. After touching carts and who knows what else, I don’t want any germs riding home with us on their hands! When we are out and eating at a restaurant I always wash my kids hands with Wet Ones before eating. We use them on play dates, during and after church, shopping, dining, pretty much anywhere we encounter germs!

After reading all of this info which will you choose? Wet Ones Wipes or gel hand sanitizer? Weigh in with your opinions in the comments!

  1. I love Wet Wipes! When I go grocery shopping, the first thing I do once I get back to my car is use a wet wipe before touching my steering wheel.

  2. we always use wet wipes too. always have an extra pack in the diaper bag.. some interesting things here i didnt know tho..thanks for sharing

  3. I’d never head about Wet Ones Wipes removing a peanut allergy. That is awesome! We don’t have any allergies in our household, but I really feel for families that do and I think it’s great that they have a resource like this. I agree that I HATE putting hand sanitizer on my baby’s hands. I think I will purchase a pack of these for the diaper bag. I’m sure they can be used as baby wipes in a pinch too. I always seem to run out of those as I use cloth wipes at home and disposables on the go!

  5. Does anyone know from experience how long wet ones singles can be stored and still work? I know what the manufacturer suggests, but I wonder if they’ll still be good beyond that. Thanks! 🙂

  6. I’m wondering where you received your information that Wet Ones do in fact REMOVE peanut oil residue? I have two children with severe peanut/tree nut allergies and have been told repeatedly by their specialist that hand wipes of ANY kind and/or hand sanitizers DO NOT effectively remove oil/residue left behind from peanuts or tree nuts. In fact I have checked with the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and our state health department and both agree that the only way to remove the peanut oil/residue is with proper hand washing technique using soap and water. Our specialist (Allergist), the CDC and state health department do not recommend the use of handwipes or sanitizers for this purpose. Only the use of soap and water. I fear the fact you have had success thus far has been pure luck and thank God for that. But I believe after hours of research and speaking with these professionals at great length it has been just that – luck, not the wipes. We almost lost one of our children to an accidental exposure to peanuts last year in the school. We work very hard to make sure everything is done to prevent that from happening again. We never want another family to go through what we did. Please verify with your sources that your information is correct and please share what sources you used and what kind of studies they have done to claim that their product does indeed remove peanut oil from hands etc. I believe the CDC and state health departments will be equally interested in the studies that have been conducted showing Wet Ones to be effective in removing this extremely powerful and potentially deadly allergen. I’m wondering if this claim is listed on the packaging as well?
Thank you so much and I look forward to your reply with great interest and hope,

  7. Good morning!

I just saw your article and and impressed on your knowledge on hand wipes and how much more effective they are rather than alcohol gels/foams. I do logistics for a hand wipe company called Kleenhanz. I would love to send you samples for your review!
Please email me (if you see this) so I can get you samples 🙂 Thanks!

    1. As per the label, Wet Ones wipes kill 99.99% of germs. I can’t speak specifically to Coronavirus however if they kill 99.99% of germs then I would expect a virus to be included in that.
