When Danika was little she received a tea set from Green Toys and I was absolutely floored by the quality of it. When I found out it was made in the USA from 100% recycled plastic milk containers I couldn’t believe it. The plastic was thick and durable and contained no BPA, PVC, phthalates, or external coatings. So not only was it safer but it really was better quality too.
Aiden is all about anything with wheels so when I was rounding up my favorite picks for my 2011 Holiday Gift Guide I headed over to Green Toys to see if they had anything that would be up his alley. I found this great Flatbed Truck & Race Car that I knew he would love.
When it arrived it was the same great quality that I was expecting and Aiden loved the set. The race car comes off and the bed of the truck raises up to drive it on and off. He thought this was so cool! This is the perfect set of wheels to please every little boy and is geared towards ages 1 and up!
When browsing through the Green Toys site I noticed their Indoor Gardening Kit and I knew instantly that Danika would fall in love with it. She has taken quite an interest in how things grow and in taking care of plants this year. Since all of the gardens are done for the year here in chilly Minnesota, I thought it would be fun to let her plant her own indoor garden. The set is also made of the very durable and adorable recycled plastic. It comes with three pots that rest in a peapod holder as well as a trowel, soil and organic seeds.
Danika couldn’t wait to get her hands dirty! I have to say that this was an activity that our whole family got involved with. The little soil discs that come with the kit need to be hydrated so the first step is to place one in each pot and add a cup of water to each pot. Then you wait 25 minutes or so until they are fully expanded and have soaked up the water. My husband was in absolute awe watching them expand and grow from a small disc into a full pot of soil. It was actually really cute to watch. He thought it was the coolest thing ever. Danika did too.
Once the soil was ready they got to plant the seeds. The kit included Zinnia, Sweet Basil and Sunflower seeds. We also stuck popsicle sticks in each one with the name of the plant on it so we’d know what was sprouting. Now we get to sit back and watch them grow! Danika is so excited to get to water them and see which one sprouts up first. This is the perfect gift for every little plant lover on your list this year!
